Urbit ID versus domains

I have been in Urbit less than a week. There are many things that impress me so far – I will discuss further here – but one of the initial benefits is no more paying annual fees for a domain. Yes, I will have a few domains to continue leasing, such as this one, for the foreseeable future, but I am going to shift my focus to a decentralised Urbit future.

Over the last 23 years or so, I have purchased hundreds of domains (and I will confess that I bought two more yesterday related to Urbit), but I have turned almost all of my domains off an auto-renew setting. I will keep this one and a few Urbit related ones and let most of the others go.

Why? With Urbit, your identity and “domain” are rolled into one. My Urbit ID, ~sonnux-polsul, is both my identity in the Urbitverse AND the equivalent of my domain. People can search for me in Urbit and I can also post content and share it. The elegant simplicity continues to impress me!
