The paedophile

Local boy,
Loved town.
Wanted to give something back,
Spent thirty years helping the grieving.

A moment of weakness,
Touched a boy.
Friends disappeared.
Got twenty years,
Neighbour repeatedly violated step-daughter,
Got five,
Along with winks,
And sympathy from friends.

Townspeople showed,
A lifetime of devotion meant nothing,
The trust of family meant as little.

If you see a sign for “Marlow” along the highway,
Roll up your windows and drive swiftly through,
If you must.
